The thing here is, the old SMSY setup look ugly as hell, but was easy enough to manage as long as you wrote down the Product Versions right (if need be from the damn Installation CDs or the Invoice).
But as with SUM, SAP's drive towards unified automation turns out to be a complete pain in the rear, because alls these brave new wonderfully "automated" tools only wok w/o problems in a clear cut lab setting - not the real world.
I just downloaded SUM 1.0-SP11, because the version I got justt 3 weeks ago is already known to be so error prone that the urgent recommendation exists to "get the new one - NOW".
Guess what, that one also insists on a new R3trans/tp combination, but only tell you so right in the middle of Step "Checks".
Some of these steps take hours to run, but you can not let them go on overnight because STUPID crap liek that pops up right in the middle.
WTF can't SUM check stuff like *before* it does anything else that takes up a lot of time, like filling the EPS inbox - or even better wtf doesn't it offer the option to download that stuff from Internet on its own?
Anybody else does by now.
It can take up to twenty minutes before navigating to the arcane place where they keep the correct patch archive, and every time(!) you get redirected to another SAP Server you have to authenticate all over again.
IBM Web portals don't do that, Oracle doesn't and for sure not Microsoft.
SAPnet never heard of SSO??
In SolMan I just setup the SLD sync all from scratch, and it gets the DB version and even the OpSys and number of CPUs right.
But for crying out loud, the "Product Instance" and "Product Version" pages are all empty.
What kind of "automatic refresh" is that supposed to be?
And you *have to do* the verification check(s), or MOPz complains about it/them not having been done.
So manually entering that sheyit either forces you to make something up the damn thing can live with (and heaven help yo if you get it wrong), or you are stuck in eternal "Checks failed" misery - like I am right now.
Sorry SAP, but these new wonderful "automated" tools are way to much beta to be released on an unsuspecting public.
New *mandatory* SUM and R3trans/tp releases every couple of weeks?
How buggy is that SAP code nowadays anyway?!
